Birdhill Village wins Tidy Towns Competition

Birdhill Village wins Tidy Towns Competition

The little community of Birdhill is rejoicing after being named the overall winner in the 2017 National Tidy Towns Competition. Having received the Tidiest Village accolade on four previous occasions, the elusive overall title was often within touching distance, but it has now been finally reached.

It is great to see that  such a small village could win this prestigious award against so many highly-rated opponents. Credit is due to the numerous people who have contributed to the cause, manually or financially since we first entered in 1991. It is the combination of all those efforts which has built up the village and the community to the level it is at today.

Here in Terryglass we are very proud of our strong showing in the competition each year, and hope that in the coming years we will also regain our title as Irelands’ Tidiest Village!

Visit Irelands Best Kept Village

Our local village, Terryglass, has just won this amazing award as Irelands Best Kept Village. The competition, open to all towns and villages on the island of Ireland is a much sought after prize. We are delighted that our local community has received this accolade after years of hard work by dedicated volunteers.

Don’t just take my word for it, come and visit!

The Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council initiated Ireland’s Best Kept Towns competition in 1995 to help raise the profile of the republic’s Tidy Towns competition and the north’s Best Kept competitions.
All entrants were marked on a number of factors including cleanliness, the outward appearance of buildings, the presentation of roads and public facilities, and the natural environment.
