We won Gold at the Responsible Tourism Awards!

Responsible Tourism Awards

On Thursday last Fuchsia Lane Farm was awarded a gold award at the Irish Responsible Tourism Awards. The awards are a response to demand from the Irish trade for a new type of awards showcasing the best in Irish responsible tourism. The 2016 Irish Responsible Tourism Awards aim to inspire replication, to excite media interest, to encourage competition and celebration from across the tourism industry on the island of Ireland.

Fuchsia Lane Farm was nominated in the category ‘Best for Local Sourcing’ and this award is in acknowledgement of our efforts,  over the years, to encourage our guests to support local artisan food producers and other businesses while holidaying with us.  We have always worked on the principle that a central element of Rural Tourism was the potential and benefit that can accrue to local economies.  As one of the judges commented: ‘Niall and Inez have been practicing Responsible Tourism since before the term was invented!’

Judges for the awards include:

  • Catherine Mack (responsibletravel.com)
  • Kevin Griffin (DIT tourism lecturer and former-EDEN awards judge)
  • Paddy Mathews (Fáilte Ireland)
  • Annabel Fitzgerald (Irish Water & formerly Coastal Programmes Manager An Taisce)
  • Mark Henry (Central Marketing Director, Tourism Ireland)
  • Cyril McAree (Managing Director, Hotel & Restaurant Times)

Fáilte Ireland’s Head Investment & Innovation, Paddy Matthews said, “A more environmentally conscious and community-centred approach to developing tourism in Ireland is becoming more and more mainstream… and so it should. It results in more genuine and authentic experiences for all our visitors.”

2016 Irish Responsible Tourism Awards

We are thrilled and honoured to announce that Fuchsia Lane Farm has been chosen as a finalist in  the 2016 Irish Responsible Tourism Awards.  These awards are designed to celebrate those making a difference in Irish tourism and using tourism to benefit local communities, economies and the environment.  Fuchsia Lane Farm is one of three finalists in the category Best Tourism Accommodation for Local Sourcing and the shortlist was chosen by industry experts under the direction of Failte Ireland.

Mr Paddy Matthews, Head of Innovation and Investment  at Failte Ireland has stated that ‘a more environmentally conscious and community-centred approach to developing tourism in Ireland is becoming more and more mainstream…it results in more genuine and authentic experiences for all our visitors’

Here at Fuchsia Lane Farm Holiday Cottages, Terryglass, Co Tipperary, we have always worked on creating and sustaining our own ‘authentic rural experience’ since we started in business nearly 20 years ago.  We provide our own and local produce to our guests, allow them to experience the solitude and refreshing environment of our family farm, with access to walks, woodland and relaxation areas.  Being selected for this award fills us with pride and encourages us to keep doing what we love!
